Following a number of months with no competitive games it was great for the boys to be back doing what they do best..... playing football.

Despite having no games for some time, both teams started the match in a slightly tentative way with both teams getting some success in the opposition's half. As possession was relatively equal it was on 20 minutes that saw the dead-lock broken. With plenty of space being offered by the home-side down the flanks, Jonnah received the ball into space down the left and quickly broke into the area. His sweet strike across the keeper saw the ball strike the far post and rebounding into the net. 1 Nil.

Some good possession followed, with pressure being applied to the home side's goal. Following a half clearance and the keeper out of position, the ball broke to Kizza who saw a half chance. With great technique, Kizza struck the ball from 20 yards which saw the ball strike the net, in what could only be described as the only place it could have gone in. 2 Nil at half time.

The second half saw more possession from the away team with a change of personnel up front. 'Nobbler' quickly got to work up front applying pressure to every loose ball. Following good work from Ryan the ball was played to Nobbler to pick up his first goal of the season. 3 Nil.

Although 3 goals to the good, the home team did not give up or let their heads go down and did not let Marchwiel have it all their own way. Despite their efforts the ball broke again down the flanks to Jonah who quickly made his way into a striking position. Another left foot strike saw the away team extend their advantage. 4 Nil.

With the game near the final whistle, another attack saw Ryan and Ellis produce some great work down the right flank. With their fine work causing defenders to be pulled out of position, the ball was crossed to an un-marked 'Nobbler', who neatly slotted home for his second of the game. 5 Nil.

A great team effort by all players, despite being a few regular starters down. Garden Village were a very organised and physical team which took a very good performance to over come. Well done boys..... you never let the long break of no football have any affect. Be proud of yourselves boys.... you deserve your place in the semi final.

Submitted by Tom Taylor

Despite not playing competitive football for some weeks the boys were quickly into their stride against a very organised team. With having no problem in creating chances, the team had been working very hard over the past month on their shape and defending as a team. As coach i couldn't have been more proud. A solid defensive performance, with great effort by every man when the team was not in possession.

When in possession all players played their part in creating many chances which saw both forwards picking up a hat-trick each. Jimmy and Ryan truly worked well together and on another day could easily have scored a double hat-trick. Despite scoring 3 each and missing numerous chances they never gave in on applying pressure to the opposition and working to create space for their team mates. Despite missing a few chances, Ryan produced an un-argued man of the match performance..... exceptional display of forward play..... WELL DONE RYAN.

Goal of the day came from Josh, who following a bad clearance, produced a great strike from 20 yards to have the keeper reaching for fresh air.

With a few lads playing out of position it was a great performance from the whole team. Well done boys..... thank you for the efforts you show to me, your parents, but most of all each other. Keep up your good work.

Submitted by Tom Taylor

Whilst both teams had key players not available, it yet again proved to be a very close encounter between 2 good teams. Whilst both teams created chances, with only a bit of 'woodwork' or good defending getting in the way, the home team broke the deadlock.

As Butters broke in from the right flank to support the attack, Albion half cleared the ball. Focussed on only one thing, Butters got a fantastic connection with the ball which saw it beat the Albion keeper from 20 yards.

The game continued to be a close encounter, however the second half saw the home team apply a bit more pressure as changes were made to the visitors teams. 2 very slick goals from Jimmy and Ryan ensured Marchwiel marched onto the next round.

A great win boys, against a very good team. A good run in this Cup will be a great achievement bearing in mind the standard of teams now remaining in this under 14's Cup.

Submitted by Tom Taylor

Marchwiel were out of the blocks very quickly on this wet and windy encounter. Pressure was applied to the home team every time the visitors got the ball. Even though a few pre match selections had to be made due to warm up injuries, the shape and committment of all players never let up. With most of the first half being played in the home team's half, the pressure finally paid off with a slick finish by Adam after some great movement down the left. Possession by the visitors remained high during the half which quickly saw goals come in from Jonah and Jimmy. The visitors went into the half time break 3 goals to the good and seemingly well in the driving seat to go and dominate the game in the second half.

Fair play to Penycae they never read the Marchwiel script.

The home team came out and whilst a few changes were made to the shape of Marchwiel, never let the visitors have their own way. With good possession and movement, the home team created a number of attacks that got Marchwiel to realise they were now in a proper game. Pressure on the visitors defense led to a penalty which put Penycae well and truly back in the game.

The second half then went on to be a very close encounter between 2 teams who know very well how to pass and move a football. Despite the end to end football Sean weighed in with a great strike that proved to be the winner after the Home Team scored another 2.

This was definately a game of 2 halves..... Whilst nails were being bitten by the end of the game, i feel the visitors deserved the win overall after their first half performance.

Well done boys, yet again. Whilst a bit of a dodgy second half, a few lessons can be taken away for future progress.

Submitted by Tom Taylor

Despite some excellent football by both teams, an early goal from the visitors saw the home team on the back foot from an early stage. The visitors quickly got into their 'passing and moving' routine and the pressure applied quickly turned into some good finishing. Whilst a number of the goals were quite special, the pick of the bunch had to be the 3rd. From defender to striker, the move consisted of 6 passes, all of which were completed in ONE TOUCH (including the finish). Whilst it was very difficult for Borras to deal with, it was a special goal that had both sets of spectators clapping. Whilst the score-line may suggest otherwise.... the game was very close in parts and without doubt both teams will be fighting for the honours at the end of the season. Scorers - Jimmy 3, Ryan 2, Jonah 1.

Submitted by Tom Taylor

VINDICATION! Let the celebrations properly commence!

Following the team's very subdued period of celebration for their League and NEWFA Cup DOUBLE achievement, as a result of a very cynical claim of playing an 'ineligible' player, a recent WDYFL hearing has drawn a line under the entire tasteless issue.

The recent hearing, which had taken a very fair and detailed look at the 'annonymous' allegation found that Marchwiel Under 12's could not have done anymore with the information that had been communicated to them from both WDYFL and Wrexham FC.

Our 'so-called' ineligible player was always a registered Marchwiel player, however as a result of the player being signed by the local professional team towards the end of the season, clarification of the monitoring process was an issue ultimately called into doubt.

The hearing found Marchwiel could not have necessarily known or done anything differently from what they had done, especially with the information that was available at the time. As a result, the hearing found Marchwiel being held to account over an inconspicuous 'administrative error'.

Let the celebrations properly begin!!!!! Life can seem unjust at times and without doubt has tainted the fantastic achievement the players have achieved. Perhaps the annonymous crusader has achieved what they intended against a bunch of young players? This said, the right and true result has ultimately come to light.

Rulings will be amended by the WDYFL to ensure similar circumstances do not necessarily cause issues for other teams. Whilst a very difficult period for the team, especially at a time when celebrations were fully deserved, Marchwiel's resolve in the process will hopefully ensure no other team, with support from the WDYFL, has to endure a similar cynical allegation.

Congratulations to every player, supportive family member and friends of the team to what has truly been an exceptional first season in 11 a side football. WELL DONE EVERYONE.... BE PROUD!!!!

Submitted by Tom Taylor

Billed as the CLASH of the TITANS, both teams ensured the game was worthy of having the two under 12 LEAGUE CHAMPIONS fighting it out to see who would reign supreme.

Both teams were quick out of the blocks, however Marchwiel broke the deadlock with a slick finish. The main and ultimately CRUCIAL turning point in the game was the penalty save from Jake Mellor. With the game looking relatively even Ruthin were awarded a penalty close to the half time whistle. Without doubt it would have put Ruthin well and truly back into the game.

What a save!!! Not only did Jake save the first spot kick but reacted quickly to ensure the penalty taker had no chance with his rebound. Marchwiel go into the break 1 nil up.

The second half saw Marchwiel show Ruthin no respite. With the wind in their sails, they put Ruthin under relentless pressure which quickly saw a 10 minute period put Marchwiel 5 nil up. Ruthin did reply with a late concillation goal, only to have Marchwiel respond with a further late goal to keep the 5 goal difference.

A truly exceptional performance against an excellent team, who have themselves had a great season. It really was a performance and result that made up for the team's previous encounter which saw a scoreline and result that did not necessarily represent the game play.

I've said it numerous times this season boys..... Really well done!!! You all showed exceptional team spirit and some excellent football that shows exactly why you fully deserve the achievements you have made.

Be proud of yourselves and each other. DOUBLE winners in your first season. Keep enjoying your football boys and i'm sure future achievements will follow.

Submitted by Tom Taylor
